Thor in Sanctuary

THOR'S STORY

Thor was found with his leg stuck in a cattle guard on Dine (Navajo) land. He is the exception; most horses do not survive being trapped in these metal grates set into the ground. Some very kind Navajo Rangers were able to extract Thor from the cattle guard. From there he was taken to the Ramah Navajo community where generous vet techs cared for him while he recovered from his injuries. A friend of the Sanctuary reached out on his behalf, and Thor regained his freedom at Sky Mountain Wild in the spring of 2024. He survived because of the kindness of so many people who cared for him on his journey.

Thor has recovered and is now thriving. He often seeks out contact with humans and even lets humans gently pet his muzzle. Once he welcomed a group of visitors by walking down the line of them, greeting each one.

We are incredibly grateful to all those who made Thor’s survival and his journey to Sky Mountain Wild possible. Mustangs in the Sky band have varied pasts, and they come to the Sanctuary with stories we will never know. In sanctuary, each wild horse has the freedom to choose how they live their lives, no matter what has happened to them. Thor is a shining example of a wild horse that embraces both his freedom and the caring nature of Sanctuary staff and visitors.

You can help Thor . . . by choosing him.

*Luminaria is Spanish for a special light or lantern which guides by illuminating the way. Be a light for forever freedom for a mustang of Sky Mountain Wild Horse Sanctuary ~ where mustangs belong only to the sky, the mountains, the wild, and each other. Thank you for being a Luminaria for mustangs.
