MOON'S STORY
Moon is a sweet mustang in his late teens with soulful eyes. He shows a wisdom beyond his years and was named for the white crescent moon on his forehead. He was part of the original band of mustangs that became the inspiration for Sky Mountain Wild.
He was not even a year old when he arrived at the Sanctuary alongside his mother, Fire. His survival was a question; he was born in mid-winter and was starving with his band on overgrazed range. Moon was still nursing but malnourished, stunted in growth with his ribs and backbone showing through the rough tufts of his winter coat. This little colt stuck close by his dam’s side. Both barely moved and when they did, their heads were down, their eyes dull. They seemed to be conserving energy. After months of fresh water, grasses, and land to roam, Moon blossomed into a frisky youngster with a shiny coat and plentiful muscle.
Even though he was rescued at a young age and knows he will not be harmed by humans, Moon has lived free and wild and acts like it. He will approach people, but stops at ten yards. He’s curious but shy. Moon has a gentle nature. He is always aware of humans and other horses, and gives everyone space. Moon is an ambassador of the band, a testament of the power of sanctuary and freedom restored forever.
You can help Moon . . . by choosing him.
*Luminaria is Spanish for a special light or lantern which guides by illuminating the way. Be a light for forever freedom for a mustang of Sky Mountain Wild Horse Sanctuary ~ where mustangs belong only to the sky, the mountains, the wild, and each other. Thank you for being a Luminaria for mustangs.
