Milagro in Sanctuary
MILAGRO'S STORY
Milagro is Spanish for miracle, a befitting name for this mustang who arrived as a starving little filly at the Sanctuary’s special care corral in the fall of 2023. She was only a few months old and came in alongside her dam, Lightning, who was also starving. They had been rounded up from an overgrazed mesa, and were a sad sight of protruding hips and ribs. Milagro was still nursing, but was not able to get sufficient nourishment from Lightning. The pair clung to each other, matching reddish sorrels; the mamma with a full-length blaze, and Milagro with an egg-shaped splotch on her forehead.
They remained in the care corral for three months for daily feedings and veterinary care while they recovered. With each passing week, Milagro gained weight and the gaps between her bones began to fill in. Her eyes brightened and she started to act her age, trotting around the corral, jumping and bucking. In December of 2023, Milagro and her dam were given their freedom back and released out on the Sanctuary.
Today, Milagro is a thriving youngster, playful and curious. She shows a lot of interest in the human animal. If you visit the Sanctuary, look for her. She is the red beauty with an egg splotch; the one with big eyes, always observing. She will circle around and look you over. Maybe she will flick her head, as if inviting you to join her for a playful romp.
You can help Milagro . . . by choosing her.
*Luminaria is Spanish for a special light or lantern which guides by illuminating the way. Be a light for forever freedom for a mustang of Sky Mountain Wild Horse Sanctuary ~ where mustangs belong only to the sky, the mountains, the wild, and each other. Thank you for being a Luminaria for mustangs.
