Fire at adoption

Fire in Sanctuary

FIRE'S STORY

She was known for her glistening mane and bright eyes, but it was not always so. Fire was starving and weak when she was rounded up with her young foal during a harsh winter on over-grazed range. In the holding pen, Fire’s band of four huddled against the back fence panel. They were by far the saddest looking group of mustangs offered for adoption. If anyone did adopt them, would they even survive?

One person had compassion for this band. She asked herself, “Why are they starving? Why are vulnerable wild horses being made homeless? There’s got to be a better way.” Fire and her band were adopted and are the inspiration and the teachers for Sky Mountain Wild Horse Sanctuary. They are the reason to find kind, ethical, and innovative ways for wild horses to be free. Thank you, Fire, and the original band for showing the way. After only a few months being free on healthy, wild land, Fire was shimmering with good health. Even though she was one of the more elusive mustangs, Fire often allowed her adopter to approach her, sit on the ground, and be still.

Fire lived free until her late 20s when she died of natural causes in sanctuary. Her band continues to live on the Sanctuary, including her offspring, Moon. Please join in honoring Fire and all she has inspired for mustangs and freedom through Sky Mountain Wild Horse Sanctuary.

You can help honor Fire's memory and her inspiration for the creation of Sky Mountain Wild Horse Sanctuary by choosing her.

*Luminaria is Spanish for a special light or lantern which guides by illuminating the way. Be a light for forever freedom for a mustang of Sky Mountain Wild Horse Sanctuary ~ where mustangs belong only to the sky, the mountains, the wild, and each other. Thank you for being a Luminaria for mustangs.
